Freecycle combines free with Recycling. It works on the principle that one person's trash is another person's treasure. By becoming part of your local freecycle group you can either post things you'd like to get rid of or send messages looking for stuff. The only caveat is it has to be entirely free - no bartering, trading or other compensation can be given. You only get good karma and the knowledge that you've kept things out of the landfill that someone else can still use.
Why use Freecycle and not just the free store at the dump? The dump actually cleans house on a weekly basis, so if no one has found your treasure after a week it will end up in the landfill. By using Freecycle you know that your junk is going to a good home.
The Freecycle Network is made up of 4,864 groups with 7,603,875 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills. Membership is free, and everything posted must be FREE, legal and appropriate for all ages.
